Gut-Friendly Soft Serve
the Ninja Creami recipe I can't stop making.
You know when you're craving something cold and creamy—but you're also trying to to keep your gut health in mind? This is that recipe.
This Gut-Friendly Soft Serve is basically a probiotic-rich, protein-packed, blood sugar-balancing dessert disguised as a treat. It’s also kid-approved and endlessly customizable. And let’s be real—it’s giving “dessert as self-care.”
This isn’t just a healthy ice cream swap. It’s full of ingredients that actually support your digestion and hormones. Here’s what makes it so special:
Kefir + Yogurt – You know I love Lifeway Kefir. This brings that tangy creaminess and a hefty dose of gut-loving probiotics (12 different live, active strains to be exact!).
Protein Powder – Balances blood sugar, supports muscle recovery, and helps you feel full and satisfied.
Optional Gelatin – A secret weapon for skin, joints, and gut lining support. It also gives that dreamy soft-serve texture without any gums or fillers.
Dairy-Free or Not – Totally up to you. Use almond milk, coconut milk, or your favorite high-quality dairy.
Gut-Friendly Soft Serve Recipe
Ingredients:
8 oz full-fat almond milk, coconut milk, or milk of choice
½ cup plain or vanilla @lifewaykefir
1 scoop vanilla protein powder (your fave brand; here are my top recs)
¼ cup coconut yogurt or Greek yogurt
8g (about 2 tsp) grass-fed gelatin – optional but magical
Instructions:
Add the gelatin to a small saucepan with ¼ cup of your milk. Let it bloom for 2–3 minutes, then gently heat it on the stove until fully dissolved. I know it’s an extra step, but it’s worth it for that silky texture! Think: creamy soft serve without the weird additives.
In a blender, combine the remaining milk, protein powder, and the melted gelatin mixture until smooth.
Pour the blended mixture into your Creami container (or similar freezer-safe container), and gently stir in the kefir and yogurt. Freeze for 12–24 hours.
Run the frozen base on “lite ice cream” or “Creami fit” setting. Add 2–4 tbsp more kefir if it’s crumbly and re-spin 1–2x.
Use the swirl attachment (if you have the Ninja Swirl) for that true soft serve vibe. Top with your faves—mine are raw cacao nibs and grain-free cookie crumbles.
I love this recipe because it doesn’t feel like a compromise. It’s sweet, creamy, and satisfying—but also full of nutrients that help your gut and hormones do their thing. Whether you're in a healing phase, postpartum, or just craving a treat that actually supports your goals, this soft serve hits.
Let me know if you try it—and definitely tag me @nourishedbynutrition with your dreamy swirls and toppings. 🍦✨
